Self-protection advice in case of risk

If the fire approaches your home

  • First of all, you have to stay calm.
  • Remove objects that may burn around the house and also garden furniture.
  • Close the windows, counterwindows, fireplace fire trap and gas bottles outside.
  • Prevent sparks from entering.
  • Keep a flashlight handy because electricity can be cut off.
  • Make it easier for first-aid teams to enter your property.
  • At all times follow the instructions of municipal officials, firefighters and police.

In case of evacuation

  • Close the whole house.
  • Disconnect electricity and gas.
  • To make the evacuation quick and orderly, take the essentials (documentation, money and medicine).

If the fire is in front of your house

  • Enter the house with your whole family and pets and do not leave it until the fire has passed.
  • Close all doors, both exterior and interior, and breathing and ventilation entrances for any air suction.
  • Disconnect butane gas, natural gas, diesel supplies, etc.
  • Place the garden hoses so that they reach anywhere in the house.
  • Fill the bathtub, sinks, etc. with water and if you have time, pull off the curtains.
  • Don’t get nervous even if smoke is coming into the house: put wet towels on the bottom of doors and wet them often to keep them from getting hot.
  • Protect yourself with cotton or wool clothing, glasses and a wet handkerchief.
  • If the smoke is thick, leave the lights on to improve visibility and to make it easier to find you.
  • Leave your documents and valuables inside your car in the garage, with the doors closed, in case you have to flee.

If you are in the open field

  • Stay away from the fire head on the sides. It is vital to flee in the opposite direction to the one in which fire and smoke advance.
  • Enter the burned area as soon as possible.
  • Regulate your breathing by making shallow, slow inhalations, take in the air as close to the ground as possible, avoid breathing thick smoke.
  • If you can, wet a tissue to cover your face and avoid the harmful effects of smoke.
  • Do not seek refuge in wells or caves, as oxygen can run out quickly. Also avoid sloping areas, mountain passes, and narrow valleys because warm air has a tendency to rise.
  • In case of imminent danger, get face down.

If you're in the car

If you have enough time, find a protected place and stop. If the head of the fire is crossing the road, do not exit the vehicle, close the windows and turn on the lights so they can find you in the smoke.

EVACUATION OF MAS FUMATS IN CASE OF FIRE

What to do in case of fire at Mas Fumats:

For your own safety and that of your loved ones, follow the following rules:

  • If you know of people with difficulties leaving the urbanization, please notify the Association immediately so that we can inform the local authorities of their location.
  • Do not use garden water during the fire, it will cause a drop in pressure that will hinder the work of the Fire Department.
  • Close doors and windows in your home and leave, leave the entrance doors to the garden open to allow firefighters or other security forces to enter in case they have to extinguish the fire near your property or need to use the water from your pool.
  • During the “fire risk” season, keep the car ready with a full tank.
  • People (with vehicle) coming from C/ Canaries, must exit on C/ Osca, direction C/ Navarra where some authority will indicate how to proceed (route in Google Maps).

  • Those coming from C/ Bilbao and C/ Córdoba must circulate in the direction of C/ Barcelona (next to C/ Andalucía) that connects Mas Fumats with Mas Boscà (route in Google Maps).

  • For those who cannot use these routes, remember that C/ España and C/ Salamanca are priorities for the passage of the authorities (firefighters, municipal police, mossos d’esquadra, etc.). Drive wisely if you have to cross these roads.
  • The concentration area for all evacuees from Mas Fumats will be the Municipal Sports Center (past the CAP) on the road that leads to Mas Oliva where they will keep you informed.
  • Bring your mobile phone (charged) but remember that its excessive use can overload the network and leave the service unusable.
  • Above all, DO NOT TURN OFF THE CAR in the parking lot at the entrance of Mas Fumats. To view the fire, look for places where authorities are not disturbed, away from main roads and common areas.
